Mini Rant: Rush Hour in Edmonton

So this is a mini rant... b/c I have to do homework and as much as I would love to get my rant on I need to work...

Rush hour in Edmonton blows funky goats. Big ugly funky goats. A trip that normally should only take me 15 minutes wound up taking me almost an hour. I think that we need to seriously rethink how some of the roads are laid out. Like the sad fact that most of our bridges are only two, count 'em, two lanes. This is a problem people. We have way too much traffic flowing in and out of the down town core to resort to using only two bridges with only two lanes of traffic. The high level bridge needs to be made bigger if only to save the sanity of commuters that spend ten or more minutes getting from Jasper ave to across the river... This doesn't take into consideration how much time they spend getting to Jasper ave or how much time is left for them once they get across the river. Me... I had to make it Whyte ave. From 87 ave, a trip that should only take me 1 minute tops ended up taking me almost 5. Gah! Yes... it is time to rethink how we lay out traffic routes. Good Luck, and call me when you have a solution. Until then I'm going to stay in bed.

Agreed. I am almost always late for my shifts at Silver. I leave work early-ish at 4:00 to get home by 4:20 to drop everything off and zip off to watch Beowulf again. That gives me 30-40 minutes to get there. I usually get there by 5:15.

Between car pooling, living closer to work, and stabbing everyone else's tires while they sleep, there's not much more we can do to deal with the traffic problem - other than scope out alternate routes. I've been able to cut down on 10 minutes of
driving through the city just by taking the roads less traveled.

It was the quickest route... well it was supposed to be. And maybe I can think of one other way that may have been quicker but normally it would take longer. I generally tend to avoid downtown like the plague. Funny considering how I'm thinking of moving there. But I digress. Normally it takes me less than 15 minutes to get home from where I was working. During rush hour or otherwise b/c I do tend to take the road less travelled. I cut corners everywhere. But its next to impossible to do that downtown. Every where is busy. Boo urns.

Aside: So just a question... but do I know you?
